"For you have rescued me from death and have kept my feet from slipping. So now, I can walk in your presence, Oh God, in your life-giving light."
— Psalms 56:13

Vera Mae Burchett

(March 7, 1963 – July 14, 2025)

Vera Mae Burchett (née Massey) passed peacefully on July 14, 2025, in Lone Tree, Colorado, at the age of 62, surrounded by love. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Vera lived fully, leaving behind a legacy of joy, courage, and unwavering compassion. Everyone who knew her called her an angel—and it was a name she earned every day.

Roots of Strength

Born in Tacoma, Washington, Vera’s early life was shaped by her father’s proud service in the United States Air Force. Her family’s journey took her from Tacoma to Taiwan, Norway, and finally Oklahoma City, where she graduated high school and attended college. Vera carried a lifelong love for Norway, cherishing friendships formed there throughout her life.

Proud of her Japanese heritage, she embodied quiet strength, grace, and resilience passed down from her mother. Vera honored her roots not through words, but through the dignity, loyalty, and unwavering spirit she demonstrated every day. Her faith in Christ guided her values, actions, and the love she shared freely with everyone she met.

A Life of Love and Joy

Vera was a skilled accountant and controller, admired for her integrity, diligence, and professionalism. Yet it was her heart, not her title, that left the deepest impression.

She brought warmth, laughter, and kindness to everyone around her. Whether dancing to her favorite country songs, singing along at concerts, enjoying beach days, or tending her yard, Vera embraced life with her whole heart. She never met a stranger—only friends she hadn’t yet had the pleasure to know.

As a mother and grandmother, she was unwaveringly present and deeply loving. One of the most special ways she shared joy was through music—every morning, she would send a “Morning Song” text, making sure we listened together no matter where we were. This simple daily ritual became a treasured connection and a symbol of her thoughtfulness, consistency, and love.

Her guiding words, “Don’t worry—be happy,” reflected her philosophy: life is to be met with hope, gratitude, and joy, even in the face of trials.

Courage in Adversity

Vera’s strength was tested in ways few could imagine. She faced breast cancer with fierce determination, her ever-present positive attitude, never complaining or doubting. Within six months, she was cancer-free. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Through both battles, she displayed unshakable dignity, quiet courage, and unwavering positivity. She met each day with grace, hope, and love.

Her courage and resilience were not only personal victories—they became a beacon for all who loved her. Vera’s life reminds us that strength is not loud or forceful; it is steadfast, quiet, and enduring.

Legacy of Grace

To know Vera was to love and adore her. She gave more than she received, loved more than she asked for, and left the world immeasurably brighter. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.

Vera smiling warmly, reflecting her joy and kindness

Vera’s favorite song, “Morning Song,” perfectly reflected her spirit. She would eagerly await it on the radio every morning and share it with me no matter where we were, reminding us to greet each day with joy. Its lyrics echoed her heart and were her daily reminder to embrace life with hope and optimism:

Wave away my yesterday, cause I’m leaving it behind me.
Hello sunshine, come what may, I feel something new inside me.
I hear the birds singing, now my alarm’s ringing.
Wake up to a brand new day.
I’m stepping, stepping on my way.
You give me strength, You give me just what I need—
And I can feel the hope that’s rising in me.

Now I’m smiling and I’m kissing all my worries goodbye.
Got the feeling if I spread my wings I might even fly.

In loving memory of Vera Massey Burchett
